Xero is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to help shape and build the Xero Accounting App, a flagship mobile experience used by millions of small businesses worldwide to manage their finances. This is a hands-on senior role with meaningful ownership, where you'll take complex mobile features from idea to production and beyond.
You'll work on the engineering team behind the Xero Accounting mobile app in a high-velocity, cross-functional environment, partnering closely with Product, Design, backend, and platform teams. The role involves building and evolving mobile experiences across critical customer workflows including banking, invoicing, payments, notifications, tasks, and file management.
Xero is strategically evolving its mobile architecture towards React Native. You'll bring your deep native iOS and Android expertise to this transition, helping identify the right boundaries between native and cross-platform development while contributing to patterns that allow teams to move faster without compromising performance, reliability, or customer experience. Your understanding of mobile platforms, performance, release practices, and customer experience will be critical.
Key responsibilities include: shipping meaningful customer value through end-to-end feature ownership; evolving mobile architecture and shaping the transition to React Native; operating at scale with responsibility for production software availability, performance, security, and scalability; improving engineering efficiency through automation and AI-assisted development; and raising the engineering bar through mentoring, code reviews, and technical guidance.
You'll have the opportunity to influence not only what happens inside the app but also the APIs, data flows, platform capabilities, and technical architecture that enable great mobile experiences. Through Xero's partnership with Anthropic, you'll help reimagine how software is built by embedding AI into everyday engineering workflows.
The hybrid role is based in Melbourne or Sydney with flexibility in how you work. Mobile engineering teams are distributed across both locations with regular collaboration and dedicated boost days.
