Grafana Labs is building end-to-end observability solutions that span application, infrastructure, database, browser, and mobile. The Mobile Observability team is scaling its instrumentation SDKs to give mobile developers first-class tools for capturing traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions. This role focuses on building high-performance, low-overhead SDKs tightly integrated with OpenTelemetry and Grafana Cloud. You will own projects end-to-end, from design through shipping. Key responsibilities include: • Build and evolve mobile instrumentation SDKs for iOS (Swift/Obj-C), prioritizing performance, stability, and developer experience • Design and ship SDK features such as session tracking, crash reporting, sampling strategies, automatic context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integrations • Break large, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables: design modular solutions, ship MVPs, gather feedback, iterate quickly • Ensure quality through automated tests, CI, documentation, and smooth backwards-compatible upgrade paths • Collaborate cross-functionally with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams • Engage with the open-source community: review PRs, discuss design proposals, guide external contributors • Mentor teammates, participate in technical design discussions, and help shape the mobile observability roadmap Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with team members across 40+ countries, backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, and others. Customers include Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The company values open standards, great developer experience, and shipping reliable software at scale. REQUIREMENTS: • Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS (Swift/Obj-C); Android (Kotlin/Java) is optional • Demonstrated experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code used by external developers • Experience working with performance-sensitive code (startup time, memory, network efficiency) and making pragmatic tradeoffs • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry (instrumentation, SDKs, collectors) or experience contributing to/maintaining OTel SDKs or similar telemetry libraries • Excellent written and verbal communication • Comfortable working in a fully remote, globally distributed team • Self-starter with bias toward action; able to operate autonomously while being highly collaborative • Coachable, customer-focused, passionate about developer experience; can do more than code (write docs, mentor, shape roadmaps) • Pragmatic and comfortable navigating ambiguity; prioritize progress over perfection BONUS: • Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash reporting libraries, or other observability open-source projects • Experience with cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter) or building native bindings/bridges • Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration challenges • Prior work on crash aggregation, session replay, or sampling for mobile telemetry
