Grafana Labs is building end-to-end observability solutions trusted by over 10,000 organizations including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The Mobile Observability team is scaling its instrumentation SDKs to give mobile developers first-class tools for capturing traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions—tightly integrated with OpenTelemetry and Grafana Cloud. In this role, you will own the design and evolution of high-performance, low-overhead iOS instrumentation SDKs (Swift/Obj-C). You'll build features such as session tracking, crash reporting, sampling strategies, automatic context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integrations. You'll break down large, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables, ship MVPs, gather feedback, and iterate quickly. Quality is paramount: you'll ensure automated tests, CI pipelines, documentation, and smooth backwards-compatible upgrade paths. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end observability workflows. You'll also engage with the open-source community by reviewing PRs, discussing design proposals, and guiding external contributors. Mentoring teammates and shaping the mobile observability roadmap are core parts of the role. Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with team members across 40+ countries, backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, and others. The culture emphasizes transparency, autonomy, trust, and meaningful work. You'll have access to in-person onboarding, a global annual leave policy of 30 days plus 3 Grafana Shutdown Days, and career growth pathways. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS (Swift/Obj-C); Android (Kotlin/Java) is optional but valued - Demonstrated experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code used by external developers - Experience working with performance-sensitive code (startup time, memory, network efficiency) and making pragmatic tradeoffs - Familiarity with OpenTelemetry (instrumentation, SDKs, collectors) or experience contributing to/maintaining OTel SDKs or similar telemetry libraries - Excellent written and verbal communication - Comfortable working in a fully remote, globally distributed team - Self-starter with bias toward action; able to operate autonomously while being highly collaborative - Coachable, customer-focused, passionate about developer experience; comfortable writing docs, mentoring, and shaping roadmaps - Pragmatic approach to navigating ambiguity; prioritize progress over perfection BONUS: - Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash reporting libraries, or other observability open-source projects - Experience with cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter) or building native bindings/bridges - Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration challenges - Prior work on crash aggregation, session replay, or sampling for mobile telemetry
