Grafana Labs is building end-to-end observability solutions trusted by over 10,000 organizations including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The Mobile Observability team is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to design and build high-performance, low-overhead instrumentation SDKs for iOS that capture traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions. You will own projects end-to-end, building and evolving mobile SDKs for iOS (Swift/Obj-C) with a focus on performance, stability, and developer experience. Key responsibilities include designing and shipping SDK features such as session tracking, crash reporting, sampling strategies, automatic context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integrations. You'll break down large, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables, ship MVPs, gather feedback, and iterate quickly. Quality is paramount—you'll ensure automated tests, CI pipelines, documentation, and smooth backwards-compatible upgrade paths. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams to ensure cohesive end-to-end observability workflows. You'll engage with the open-source community by reviewing PRs, discussing design proposals, and guiding external contributors. Additionally, you'll mentor teammates, participate in technical design discussions, and help shape the mobile observability roadmap. Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with team members across 40+ countries, backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, and others. The company values open standards, great developer experience, transparency, autonomy, and trust. You'll work in an innovation-driven environment with defined career growth pathways and approachable leadership. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS (Swift/Obj-C); Android (Kotlin/Java) is optional but valued - Demonstrated experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code used by external developers - Experience working with performance-sensitive code (startup time, memory, network efficiency) and making pragmatic tradeoffs - Familiarity with OpenTelemetry (instrumentation, SDKs, collectors) or experience contributing to/maintaining OTel SDKs or similar telemetry libraries - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Comfortable working in a fully remote, globally distributed team - Self-starter with bias toward action and ability to operate autonomously while being highly collaborative - Coachable, customer-focused, and passionate about developer experience; ability to write docs, mentor others, and shape roadmaps - Pragmatic and comfortable navigating ambiguity; prioritize progress over perfection and iterate quickly based on feedback BONUS POINTS: - Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash reporting libraries, or other observability open-source projects - Experience with cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter) or building native bindings/bridges - Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration challenges - Prior work on crash aggregation, session replay, or sampling for mobile telemetry
