Salary: USD 137,600 - 206,400 / annual
Carbon is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Continuous Improvement team, which is responsible for designing, building, and sustaining additive manufacturing solutions. The team manages new product introduction (NPI) with Manufacturing, develops new product variations, designs new features for current products, and adapts products for long-term production in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and testing of complex parts and subassemblies, driving changes through Production. You will perform comprehensive engineering analysis including detailed tolerance, safety, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure modes, and cost assessments. You will collaborate directly with Industrial Design, Electrical, Optical, Software, and other engineering teams to create engineering requirements, implement designs, and troubleshoot issues. Additionally, you will work with Operations teams—including Sourcing, Planning, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, and Field Service—to support released products, ensure continued production, and resolve assembly and field issues.
You will create and maintain clear engineering specifications and documentation to support knowledge transfer throughout the company, and work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners throughout development to ensure quality and performance.
The role is based in the Sunnyvale office and requires 5 days in office, with some travel to the Santa Clara manufacturing facility.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree
- 3+ years of experience successfully taking mechanical designs from concept to production
- Strong ability to perform engineering analysis of parts and assemblies (tolerance, safety, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure modes, cost)
- Understanding of product quality metrics and methods including GD&T, DFMEA, and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to create requirements, implement designs, and troubleshoot issues
- Experience with material selection in sheet metal, metal, plastic, and elastomers
- Strong familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, plastic injection molding, casting, and CNC machining
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to present and defend design decisions to leadership
- Experience driving designs to schedules and providing schedule input to project managers
- Portfolio required with resume submission
Nice to Have:
- Experience in a production environment and comfort working with technicians on the manufacturing floor and in the lab
