Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Assembly Team and contribute to the design and fabrication of specialized tooling for the SPARC tokamak device. In this role, you will design, develop, and manage the fabrication of unique assembly and integration tools required for the tokamak's construction. Your responsibilities include developing overall concepts, engineering specifications, and use strategies for each tool assembly, collaborating closely with system teams to identify efficient, creative, cost-effective, and safe methods for manipulating and integrating tokamak components. You will leverage your expertise on the most complex, largest, and most critical tools and manipulations to ensure successful completion of challenging assembly phases. The role involves designing and building mega-scale tools needed to assemble multi-million-pound precision components, then creating detailed work-instruction packets to guide assembly operations. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers as part of collaborative sponsored research projects at the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center and within CFS. This is an opportunity to shape how the giant parts of this advanced fusion energy system come together, working on one of the world's most ambitious clean energy initiatives.
