GitLab is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Technical Program Management to lead a newly formed Program Management Office (PMO) within the Engineering organization. This is a high-impact opportunity to build out a new function and define program management practices at a company trusted by 50% of the Fortune 100.
You will directly manage a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs) at varying levels, working across different product areas. Your responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of TPMs with regular feedback and growth planning
- Partnering with the Director of Technical Program Management and Product/Engineering leadership on staffing, resourcing, and aligning TPM assignments with business objectives
- Creating and maintaining program management standards for documentation, project plans, status reports, post-mortems, and team direction
- Developing long-term strategy and vision for the Program Management function, including job family development, career development frameworks, and hiring roadmaps
- Building strong cross-functional relationships with Engineering, Product, Security, and GTM teams
- Identifying and mitigating risks, resolving conflicts, and removing obstacles for the TPM team
- Establishing and tracking KPIs for programs and team members, holding the team accountable for commitments
- Leading strategic planning with direct influence over staffing decisions, project timelines, and stakeholder engagement
- Embodying GitLab's CREDIT values in leadership and decision-making
The PMO is a newly established function within GitLab Engineering, focused on standardizing best practices and improving operational efficiency across R&D.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience as a people manager and as an individual contributor TPM, ideally in a senior position
- Ability to prioritize and delegate work effectively
- Proven track record of successful collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience developing and executing strategic team development plans
- Ability to coach others on driving cross-functional, product-driven initiatives without direct control
- Proven ability to position yourself and the team as trusted partners and thought leaders
