Salary: USD 180,000 - 225,000 / annual

Zoox is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Tools Development to lead a multi-team organization focused on AI-powered tools, agents, and the test infrastructure, data pipelines, and process automation that support engineering and business operations. In this role, you will lead and grow multiple engineering teams (including managers and senior engineers), holding your organization accountable for delivery and quality. You'll set a unified, prioritized roadmap that balances new AI agent and tool capabilities with infrastructure and automation needs, identifying high-leverage opportunities where LLMs can meaningfully improve test systems, data pipelines, and process automation. Key responsibilities include: - Managing multiple engineering teams spanning AI-powered tools/agents and test infrastructure - Designing and enforcing architecture, quality gates, and release processes to ensure tools, pipelines, and AI agents are validated, secure, and reliable in production - Partnering cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and business leadership to align priorities and drive adoption of new tooling - Demoing and presenting your team's tools to internal stakeholders, attracting new internal customers, and growing the portfolio of supported use cases - Building and continuously improving planning, release management, quality assurance, and reporting processes to enable predictable, scaled shipping You bring 6-8+ years of software engineering or applied AI experience, including proven success managing managers and multiple engineering teams with accountability for delivery and quality. You have solid, practical knowledge of LLMs and applied AI, with experience identifying and delivering AI-driven solutions to real business problems. You've designed and shipped production AI agent or automation systems, including defining architecture, tool/integration contracts, and validation processes. Experience with test infrastructure, data pipeline design, and process automation is essential, as is a track record leading cross-functional programs and presenting to senior stakeholders. Bonus qualifications include experience operating AI-driven automation or triage tools in production with measurable quality/accuracy metrics, background in complex safety-critical or high-uptime operational environments, and experience managing distributed or contractor engineering teams.
