Kikoff is a profitable, pre-IPO fintech company on a mission to empower financial security at scale. With record revenue growth and a unicorn valuation, the company serves millions of people through products for credit building, liquidity access, and savings.
This is a founding technical accounting hire reporting to the VP Corporate Controller, owning external reporting and technical accounting as Kikoff prepares for IPO. The role starts as an individual contributor but has the scope to build a team as the company scales.
Key responsibilities include:
SEC Reporting & IPO Readiness: Draft financial statement sections of registration statements (financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, supporting schedules). Build and run quarterly and annual reporting processes (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, proxy), including close-to-file calendars, disclosure checklists, and XBRL tagging. Manage the transition from private to public accounting, including emerging growth company status, transition period elections, and new public company disclosures.
Technical Accounting: Own technical accounting for all areas except revenue recognition. This includes stock compensation and equity valuation (ASC 718), EPS (ASC 260), segments (ASC 280), internal-use software (ASC 350-40), business combinations (ASC 805), debt (ASC 470), leases (ASC 842), related party transactions, and contingencies. Critically, own credit and financing questions: sale versus secured borrowing on warehouse and securitization facilities (ASC 860), consolidation and VIE analysis for financing vehicles (ASC 810), and fair value measurement (ASC 820, 825). Participate in deal structuring before documents are signed. Track new accounting standards and SEC rulemaking, flagging material changes and driving early implementation.
Partner & Regulatory Reporting: Own recurring reporting for bank partners, warehouse lenders, and securitization investors, including program financial reporting, covenant compliance certificates, and reconciliation of loan tapes to the general ledger. Maintain crosswalks between contract definitions (tangible net worth, EBITDA, eligible receivable, delinquency, charge-off) and GAAP sources. Serve as the accounting bridge to Compliance and Legal on state licensing filings, loss contingencies, and regulatory submissions. Track climate disclosure rules (California SB 253, SB 261) and support voluntary ESG and SASB disclosures, ensuring all published metrics tie to audited financials.
Disclosure & Controls: Set up disclosure committee processes and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) as the company scales toward public company requirements.
The role requires national office–caliber technical judgment paired with an operator's drafting ability. You will work closely with the VP Corporate Controller, CFO, external auditors, technical advisors, and internal and outside counsel. Based in San Francisco office three days per week.
