Zapier is seeking a Senior Manager of IT to lead a globally distributed team and transform IT operations for a fully remote, ~800-person company. This role sits at the intersection of two critical mandates: keeping Zapier's workforce productive and secure, and building enterprise-grade identity and access controls that support upmarket growth.
You will lead IT as a product, not a help desk. The role involves architecting and evolving identity (Okta: SSO, SCIM, OIDC, SAML, MFA, RBAC/ABAC, lifecycle automation) and endpoint management (Jamf: device trust, EDR) into an enterprise-grade access layer. You'll own the IT side of zero-trust architecture end-to-end—identity, device, and access—as a co-owner with the Security team.
Key responsibilities include: raising the bar on IT service through AI-first operations (self-service provisioning, deflection, proactive remediation); governing a portfolio of 200+ SaaS tools with ROI accountability and vendor governance; owning major IT incidents end-to-end and leading root-cause analysis; translating company direction into a forward-looking IT roadmap; setting and enforcing policy across People Ops, Finance, Legal, Product, and Engineering; and building a tiered, globally distributed IT function from a currently flat team.
You'll lead approximately 6 people today, with the structure evolving as IT scales. The role includes a player-coach element—rolling up your sleeves on hard problems while building the team that makes that the exception. You'll also serve as an internal reference for enterprise access controls, feeding product gaps and speaking to IT personas in enterprise deals about how Zapier runs IT at scale.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years in IT/Systems Engineering with 3+ years managing engineers, ideally in a high-growth, fully remote environment. You bring deep hands-on expertise in Okta and Jamf, SaaS governance at scale, and experience partnering with Security on zero-trust, enterprise access controls, and compliance (SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001). You have a product mindset, are excited by AI and automation, and see running IT on Zapier's own product as a competitive advantage. You combine strategic execution with operational and financial rigor, running to SLAs, metrics, and FinOps discipline.
