Chainguard is a venture-backed software supply-chain security company delivering hardened, secure builds of open source software. The company serves Fortune 500 enterprises and global leaders including OpenAI, Snowflake, and Snap Inc.
This is a foundational management role to build redundancy and strategic depth into Chainguard's commission function, which is currently owned by a single person. You will own the technical and analytical side of commissions—calculation, reporting, and payout validation—while playing an active role in compensation plan design and strategy.
Key responsibilities include: hands-on commission calculation and validation; partnering with Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Partnerships leadership on compensation plan evaluation and design; advising on accelerator gates, multiplier structures, and mega deal commissions; managing global commission plans across five plan types (Account Executives, Solutions Engineers, Partnerships, BDRs, Renewals) across multiple geographies; mentoring a Senior Financial Analyst toward a management track; and building scalable processes and infrastructure to support growth.
A critical strategic objective is optimizing the commission pay rate from approximately 50% of net new bookings toward a best-in-class 20–25% benchmark, while structuring increasingly large transactions in the $4M–$5M+ range.
You must bring proven experience owning commissions at a high-growth software company (ideally supporting 300–400+ sales representatives), deep expertise in commission design (not just execution), experience with mega deal structuring, and proficiency with commission management tools (EverStage experience is a plus). You should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, have strong executive presence, and be able to engage peer-level with Sales and Finance leadership on compensation strategy.
