Hungryroot is seeking a Senior Manager of Accounting & Reporting to lead the evolution of its accounting function. The company uses AI to deliver personalized healthy groceries, recipes, and supplements directly to consumers—operating as a distributed, remote-first team across 28+ US states with headquarters in NYC.
In this role, you will direct GAAP position documentation, manage complex areas of the financial close cycle, and build out a world-class accounting and financial reporting function. You'll serve as a primary technical contact for external audits, prepare audit-ready technical memos and analyses, and support the Controller across all controllership areas. Key responsibilities include:
**Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting:** Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, technical memos, and accounting policies aligned with FASB and SEC requirements. Manage the external audit relationship, ensure accurate monthly/quarterly/annual reporting for investors and lenders, and maintain disclosure standards comparable to public companies.
**Controllership Transformation:** Lead process reviews to strengthen financial statement accuracy and completeness. Establish efficient close procedures with strong internal controls. Leverage AI tools to drive insights and efficiencies. Own highly technical areas including equity compensation, payroll, bonuses, vendor rebates, capitalized software, leases, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition.
You'll operate with limited direction, handle confidential matters, and move fluidly between deep technical work and hands-on execution. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, takes ownership of workflows, and is excited by mission-driven work.
Required: CPA, 6+ years progressive experience blending external audit, financial reporting, technical accounting, and controllership. Deep knowledge of ASC 606, 718, 842, and 350-40. Strong NetSuite (or comparable ERP) and advanced Excel skills. Preferred: Big 4 audit background, public company or IPO-readiness exposure, e-commerce/CPG/DTC experience, and familiarity with Claude or other AI tools.
