Pennylane, a rapidly growing French fintech company backed by Sequoia and other leading investors, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its Legal, Compliance & Risk team. The company has raised €400M, grown to 1,000 employees across 25 countries, and serves over 900,000 SMEs and 6,000 accounting firms with its financial management platform. Reporting to the Lead Legal Counsel, Contracts, you will manage a broad portfolio of commercial and operational agreements across customer, supplier, partner, reseller, and integrator relationships. Your responsibilities include drafting and negotiating international contracts (with current focus on Germany), improving customer terms and conditions for SME customers across France and Europe, and supporting Sales and Partnerships teams with the contracting process. Key focus areas include: international purchase orders and supplier agreements; customer, reseller, and integrator agreements; anticipating contractual impacts of key regulations (e-invoicing, payment services, EU AI Act); structuring and improving internal contracting processes; optimizing contract management tools (Tomorro, Pivot, Notion); identifying automation opportunities; and providing pragmatic legal advice to cross-functional teams. You will act as a trusted business partner, balancing legal rigor with commercial pragmatism. The role involves training non-legal teams and building a strong legal culture across the organization. Required qualifications: qualified lawyer or legal counsel with extensive contract law experience in law firms (IP/IT, technology, SaaS focus) or fast-growing tech companies; fluency in English and working knowledge of French and German; strong expertise in B2B SaaS agreements (IP, indemnification, liability, SLAs, data provisions); autonomous project management; multi-jurisdictional experience (France/Europe); interest in legal operations and contract management technology; ability to communicate complex legal topics clearly to non-legal audiences.
