Pennylane, a rapidly growing French fintech company backed by Sequoia and valued at €400M+ in funding, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specializing in contracts. You will join a 10-person Legal, Compliance & Risk team and report to the Lead Legal Counsel, Contracts.
Your primary responsibilities include drafting and negotiating international contracts—particularly with German partners and suppliers—while managing customer, reseller, and integrator agreements across France and Europe. You will improve customer terms and conditions for SME customers, support the Sales team with contracting processes and automated quotations, and review agreements with integrators and resellers. A key focus is anticipating contractual impacts of emerging regulations including e-invoicing, payment services directives, and the EU AI Act.
Beyond contract management, you will drive legal operations improvements by structuring and optimizing internal contracting processes, enhancing contract management tools (Tomorro, Pivot, Notion), and identifying automation opportunities including AI-driven solutions. You will serve as a trusted legal partner to Sales, Partnerships, Security, Finance, and Product teams, providing pragmatic advice while maintaining legal rigor. You will also train non-legal teams and help build a strong legal culture across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a qualified lawyer with extensive contract law experience from a law firm (preferably IP/IT, technology, or SaaS focus) or a fast-growing tech company. You must be fluent in English with working knowledge of French and German. Strong expertise in B2B SaaS agreements—including IP, indemnification, liability caps, SLAs, and data provisions—is essential. You should be comfortable managing matters autonomously from start to finish, have multi-jurisdictional experience (particularly France and Europe), and be interested in legal operations and technology. Above all, you are a genuine business partner who can help teams move quickly while protecting the company, with the ability to make complex legal topics clear to non-legal audiences.
