Pennylane, a rapidly growing French fintech company backed by Sequoia and other leading investors, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specializing in contracts. The company has raised €400 million and serves over 900,000 SMEs and 6,000 accounting firms across Europe with its financial management platform.
You will join a 10-person Legal, Compliance & Risk team, reporting to the Lead Legal Counsel for Contracts. This is a hands-on role combining legal rigor with business pragmatism, where you'll act as a trusted partner across Sales, Partnerships, Security, Finance, and Product teams.
Key responsibilities include: drafting and negotiating international purchase orders and supplier agreements (with current focus on Germany); improving customer terms and conditions for SME clients across France and Europe; reviewing and negotiating agreements with integrators and resellers; anticipating contractual impacts of regulations including e-invoicing, payment services, and the EU AI Act; structuring and optimizing internal contracting processes for scalability; managing contract management tools (Tomorro, Pivot, Notion); identifying automation opportunities; and training non-legal teams to build strong legal culture.
You bring extensive contract law experience from law firms (ideally IP/IT, technology, or SaaS) or fast-growing tech companies. You are fluent in English with working knowledge of French and German. You have strong B2B SaaS expertise (IP, indemnification, liability, SLAs, data provisions), multi-jurisdictional experience (particularly France and Europe), and interest in legal operations and technology. You are autonomous, pragmatic, rigorous, and able to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences. You thrive in fast-moving environments with ambiguity and rapid iteration.
