Duolingo is seeking a Senior Learning Designer with deep expertise in Hindi and South Asian linguistics to lead curriculum and learning experience design for Indian language courses. This role bridges pedagogy, cultural expertise, and product innovation to serve Duolingo's half-billion learners.
You will lead curriculum design for Hindi and other South Asian languages, balancing cultural relevance, pedagogical rigor, and measurable learning outcomes. You'll leverage human-in-the-loop AI workflows and prompt engineering to generate and refine high-quality content at scale while maintaining Duolingo's quality standards. You'll establish content quality systems including guidelines, rubrics, and review workflows to ensure linguistic accuracy, difficulty calibration, consistency, and brand voice across features.
Key responsibilities include partnering cross-functionally with Product, Design, Engineering, and Scaling Operations to plan roadmaps, ship experiments, and build scalable content generation processes. You'll contribute to strategy for teaching Hindi and other South Asian languages informed by understanding of regional linguistic and cultural context. You'll also help identify, recruit, onboard, and manage freelance educators, linguists, cultural consultants, and language reviewers from relevant regions.
Required qualifications: deep proficiency in Hindi with substantial experience teaching it as an additional language; deep cultural expertise centered in India with understanding of broader South Asian sociolinguistic context; familiarity with Hindi's place in the Indo-Aryan language family and ability to learn other languages quickly; formal training in linguistics including language typology; analytical thinking and systematic evaluation of linguistic questions; creativity and product sense to make learning approachable and culturally meaningful; operational strength to lead complex projects and manage dependencies; excellent communication and collaboration across disciplines; relevant academic or professional preparation in linguistics, education, or language pedagogy.
This is an in-office role based in Pittsburgh, PA with no remote accommodations.
