Salary: USD 186,065 - 218,900 / annual
Coinbase is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate real-time trading systems powering the institutional exchange. You'll own the core infrastructure that processes billions of dollars in daily volume for the world's largest financial institutions, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.
In this role, you will build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data across cloud and colocated environments. You'll own the reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput financial data 24/7, including incident response and failover design. You'll partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into quarterly deliverables and well-scoped milestones.
You'll drive technical design decisions within your domain, producing clear proposals and building consensus with peers and tech leads. You'll write high-quality, well-tested code in a performance-critical backend environment using Java, C++, or Go, with a focus on latency and throughput.
Required experience includes 5+ years of software engineering with hands-on ownership of production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure systems at scale. You need deep proficiency in a backend language (Java, C++, or Go) and experience with JVM or Linux performance tuning for latency-sensitive workloads. You should have a track record designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems processing high volumes with strict correctness and uptime requirements (24/7). Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to scope and deliver complex technical projects on clear timelines is essential. A genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets is required, with the ability to ramp quickly; deep crypto experience is a plus. You should utilize generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
