ICON develops advanced construction technologies using proprietary 3D printing robotics, software, and advanced materials to transform homebuilding on Earth and beyond. The Industrial Design team seeks a Senior Industrial Designer to join a multidisciplinary group responsible for conceiving, designing, validating, and launching world-class products that advance humanity's ability to provide dignified, affordable, resilient, and sustainable shelter globally.
You will collaborate with team members and executives to invent, design, engineer, and launch new products and services. This role requires cross-functional negotiation and collaboration with Hardware, Home, Controls, Material Science, and Software teams to refine and execute product vision. You'll develop deep technical knowledge across disciplines to understand design constraints and challenges, working with outside vendors and internal experts to optimize designs for function, aesthetics, and production.
Key responsibilities include researching new materials, production methods, and emerging technologies for projects, and being willing to transition flexibly between studio work and field work as needed. You'll manage the production of design work with various partners and vendors, ensuring design craftsmanship throughout the development process.
Required qualifications: 8+ years of professional industrial design experience, industrial design degree, a portfolio of produced work or understanding of production feasibility, hands-on prototyping expertise beyond virtual design tools, and strong collaborative communication skills. You should have a healthy obsession with how things are made and work, passion for materials exploration, and deep appreciation for aesthetics.
Preferred experience includes design studio or large multidisciplinary team environments, space or additive manufacturing background, product ecosystem and design language creation, and strong 3D modeling and photorealistic rendering skills. Reports to Director of Industrial Design with onsite presence in Austin, TX and travel as needed per project.
