Re:Build Manufacturing, through its subsidiary Tekna, is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to join a fast-paced design consulting and contract manufacturing firm based in Southwest Michigan. Tekna has been operating since 1988, serving diverse industries including medical devices, life sciences, consumer goods, industrial products, electronics, and appliances. The company combines design consulting, contract manufacturing, and OEM services with cross-functional teams spanning Design Engineering, Industrial Design, CAD, Procurement, Production, and Quality.
In this role, you will provide design solutions that address identified user needs while helping clients meet their business objectives. You'll work closely with Design and Engineering Leads to scope projects and understand client business objectives, then assist in developing work approaches and strategies. Your responsibilities include participating in and leading research activities, demonstrating high skill levels in fundamental design tools and practices, and maintaining clients' corporate identity through material selection, color palettes, and design elements.
You'll use a combination of market research, ergonomic analysis, user scenario research, sketching, rendering, study models, computer modeling, and prototype development to create solutions. The role offers significant variety—you'll work across medical, consumer, and industrial product categories with both established companies and early-stage startups.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (BFA) or Industrial Design (BSID), 3-5 years of experience in corporate or consulting environments, strong written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional organizational abilities with proven deadline management. The company emphasizes a supportive team atmosphere where individuals are empowered to take on responsibility, receive experienced-based coaching, and have opportunities for professional growth through Re:Build's broader portfolio of industrial businesses.
