ICON develops advanced construction technologies using proprietary 3D printing robotics, software, and advanced materials to shift the paradigm of homebuilding on Earth and beyond. The Industrial Design team is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for conceiving, designing, validating, and launching world-class products that advance humanity's ability to provide dignified, affordable, resilient, and sustainable shelter.
In this role, you will collaborate with team members and executives to invent, design, engineer, and launch new products and services. You will work cross-functionally with Hardware, Home, Controls, Material Science, and Software teams to refine and execute the product vision. The position requires developing deep technical knowledge across multiple disciplines to understand design constraints and challenges, enabling seamless processes and production solutions. You will collaborate with outside vendors and internal experts to optimize designs for function, aesthetics, and production, research new materials and production methods as needed, and be willing to transition fluidly between studio work and field work.
This is a hands-on role for a curious, passionate, and collaborative problem-solver with rigorous attention to detail. You will be a direct contributor to developing entirely new products and processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of professional work experience as an Industrial Designer
- Industrial Design degree required
- Portfolio demonstrating produced work or understanding of production feasibility
- Demonstrated passion for materials and material exploration
- Deep appreciation for aesthetics and design craftsmanship
- Ability to create high-quality design work and manage production with various partners and vendors
- Hands-on prototyping experience, not relying solely on virtual design tools
- Strong collaborative communication skills and ability to seek optimum solutions with team members
PREFERRED:
- Experience in design studio environments or large multidisciplinary teams with strong design processes
- Experience in space or additive manufacturing
- Experience creating product ecosystems and design languages
- Strong 3D modeling and photorealistic rendering skills
