Coder is a Series B AI infrastructure company scaling from ~220 to 500 people by end of 2027. The People team is expanding with dedicated HRBPs and Generalists embedded in each pod (GTM, R&D, G&A).
You will serve as the HR Business Partner for the R&D pod, with additional responsibility as the international employment expert for the UK, EOR countries, and APAC. This is a foundational hire supporting Coder's London entity buildout, where you'll collaborate with a London-based HR Generalist and external UK counsel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with R&D leaders on performance management, organizational design, employee relations, and people strategy; identify and escalate risks early
- Advise on international employment relations and organizational changes under local law; determine when to engage outside counsel for high-risk matters (redundancy, terminations)
- Build UK employment infrastructure with Legal and Finance: employment contracts, probation/notice terms, right-to-work verification, statutory leave, policies, and benefits
- Manage EOR relationships (Deel, Rippling) and develop transition plans from EOR to direct employment in key markets
- Monitor regulatory changes in the UK and active EOR countries (including Employment Rights Act updates); proactively flag compliance risks
- Own performance cycles, compensation reviews, promotions, and leveling for the R&D pod alongside the HR Manager and Total Rewards team
- Develop repeatable country playbooks to streamline market entry and reduce setup friction
- Maintain accurate international employee data in Rippling and Deel; support audits and regulatory reporting
You'll work across time zones with early UK-hours overlap and occasional UK travel. This role is expected to grow in scope and strategic ownership as Coder's international footprint expands.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of HRBP experience, including employee relations, with meaningful UK and/or international exposure
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and familiarity with EOR models and their limitations
- Hands-on experience with Rippling and/or Deel
- Ability to work independently across time zones with early UK-hours overlap and occasional UK travel
- Detail-oriented (catch contract/compensation errors before deployment) and strategic (know when to escalate)
- Highly collaborative, working closely with US- and London-based teams
Bonus:
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent hands-on HR certification
- Experience supporting a company through legal entity launch
- Exposure to APAC or EMEA employment law beyond the UK
- Experience partnering with engineering or R&D teams in high-growth SaaS
