Cohere, a leading enterprise AI company headquartered in Toronto, is hiring a Senior HR Business Partner to support scaling through rapid growth. This is a global remote role reporting to the Head of HR, with significant autonomy and influence across a distributed organization spanning Toronto, London, NYC, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin, and Seoul.
You'll serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior technical leaders, partnering on complex organizational challenges including organizational design, leadership development, talent strategy, succession planning, and organizational health. The role combines strategic partnership with hands-on execution—translating business priorities into people strategies while coaching leaders and strengthening team effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include: shaping organizational structures and operating models as teams scale; coaching senior leaders and strengthening leadership effectiveness; leading performance, talent, and succession discussions; identifying and addressing engagement, retention, and capability challenges; and helping build People function practices for the next growth stage.
You'll thrive if you build deep trust with senior leaders, navigate ambiguity with clarity and judgment, think systemically about organizational health, hold high standards with empathy, and move seamlessly between strategy and execution. The ideal candidate has significant HRBP experience at senior or Director level, deep familiarity with technical organizations (Engineering, Research, Product, AI teams), experience scaling in startups or high-growth environments, global partnership experience across multiple regions, exceptional written communication skills, and a collaborative, low-ego approach.
