Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) Engineer to join the Electron rocket team in Auckland. The Electron is one of the world's most frequently-launched rockets, and this role is central to its continued success.
You will own mission design and GNC system development across multiple domains. On the mission design side, you'll handle trajectory optimization and design for orbital and suborbital missions (including HASTE), auto-sequence planning and implementation, Monte Carlo analysis, and configuration management. You'll support pre-flight analysis, launch day operations, and post-flight data review.
On the GNC systems side, you'll write flight software, develop control algorithms and models, analyze hardware performance, and interpret flight data to drive continuous improvement. You'll work closely with the GNC Team Lead to mentor junior engineers and support the broader team.
Key responsibilities include assisting with trajectory optimization for launch vehicle missions, designing and verifying auto-sequences (maneuvers, telemetry, ground station contacts) for flight tests and wet dress rehearsals, converting optimized 3DOF trajectories into 6DOF flight scenarios, and conducting Monte Carlo simulations for mission assurance.
This is a hands-on role at a fast-moving aerospace company that builds real hardware for meaningful missions. You'll have direct impact on launch operations and mission success, working alongside a team that moves fast and supports each other to deliver reliable rockets to the launch pad repeatedly.
