Postscript is an AI messaging platform trusted by 20,000+ Shopify brands to drive revenue through SMS marketing. Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, the company has been fully remote since 2018.
You'll join the Customer Context team as a Senior Fullstack Engineer, helping build and scale foundational services, APIs, and data pipelines that power the Postscript product. This role blends strong backend engineering with expertise in data-intensive systems, performance, and reliability. You'll work closely with software engineers, data engineers, and product teams to help e-commerce marketers maximize revenue through best-in-class targeting and context-driven AI.
This is a high-autonomy role for engineers energized by ambiguity who take genuine ownership and bring strong opinions on building things well without sacrificing speed. AI is central to how the company works—you'll be expected to be an active practitioner of AI-first development, fluent with agentic coding tools, and constantly pushing boundaries with AI in your day-to-day work.
Key responsibilities include: taking deep ownership of systems and becoming the go-to technical expert; independently investigating and executing solutions across distributed systems; architecting and maintaining highly available, scalable REST APIs and backend services; driving system decoupling and technical debt reduction; building agentically with concurrent autonomous agent workflows; staying at the forefront of emerging AI tooling; contributing to how AI integrates into systems and engineering workflows; collaborating cross-functionally in an async-first environment; identifying and eliminating single points of failure; and improving how engineering gets done through better tools and utilities.
As a senior engineer, you'll move beyond writing code to orchestrating it, with a focus on balancing new initiatives with improving existing systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of experience building large-scale data-intensive backend systems and APIs
- Active daily user of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) with concrete examples of impact on output and workflow
- Proficiency in some or all of: Python, Go, Rust, React, TypeScript
- Close familiarity with AI tooling landscape: new model releases, agentic workflows, emerging best practices
- Critical thinking about AI output—knowing where it accelerates, introduces risk, and how to verify results
- Ability to context switch quickly across concurrent workstreams
- Experience with both 0-to-1 initiatives and complex existing systems
- Working knowledge of event-driven distributed systems, Kafka, and distributed data processing (Flink/Spark/etc)
- Experience growing systems under production customer load, ideally from early stage to multi-terabyte scale
- Experience building and designing high-scale systems on AWS with diverse database technologies (RDBMS, OLAP, NoSQL)
- Strong SQL skills for transactional and analytical workloads; ability to model relational data and design index strategies
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and comfort evaluating/applying infrastructure changes
- Familiarity building and observing applications on AWS & Kubernetes with observability tools (Datadog, Signoz, or comparable)
- Clear, direct communication with proactive information sharing for cross-functional and async teams
- Strong instincts for technical tradeoffs informed by engineering best practices and business priorities
