Preply is a unicorn edtech platform (Series D, $150M) that connects 100,000+ tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners across 180 countries. The CRM team owns all learner and tutor communications—lifecycle emails, push notifications, and in-app messages—at global scale.
As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the CRM team, you will combine hands-on execution with technical leadership, working across Preply's Python/Django backend and React frontend, plus the CRM stack powered by Braze. You'll drive initiatives from discovery through deployment, balancing immediate product needs with long-term sustainability.
Key responsibilities:
- Evolve the CRM platform and automation layer: work with Braze, HTML templating, and build AI-assisted workflows to accelerate campaign delivery and reliability.
- Develop and own backend features in Python/Django; design and troubleshoot integrations with third-party vendors.
- Build and evolve frontend experiences in React/TypeScript; contribute to experimentation frameworks and establish best practices.
- Lead complex initiatives end-to-end, taking ownership throughout the lifecycle.
- Drive engineering excellence through mentorship, architectural reviews, and adoption of best practices.
- Partner with Product, Data, and UX to identify opportunities, validate hypotheses, and maximize customer value through experimentation.
- Shape architectural direction for complex systems, making technical decisions that improve scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Navigate ambiguity, evaluate trade-offs, and align technical investments with business objectives.
- Influence technical direction beyond your immediate scope, collaborating across teams to drive alignment and delivery.
- Continuously raise the quality bar through craftsmanship, curiosity, and commitment to helping others grow.
Preply ships 50–60 times per day with a solid CI/CD setup and a culture that values action over ceremony. The company has 90%+ adoption of AI coding tools across engineering and is moving toward AI-augmented development at scale. Engineers have direct access to the best tools and freedom to experiment.
You will work in a truly cross-functional team alongside engineers, CRM marketers, localization specialists, product designers, UX writers, and other stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Full-stack expertise: comfortable across the stack, building backend services in any major language and working on the frontend. Python experience is not required; the team is tech-agnostic and welcomes engineers from Java/Spring, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Scala/Play, PHP, Go, and other backgrounds.
- Internal tooling track record: you've built and owned tooling or automation that other engineers depended on daily; you understand that adoption is part of the job.
- Email & template engineering: you can deliver production-ready email independently with a templating language and understand why email engineering differs from web engineering (rendering constraints, client quirks, testing burden).
- AI expertise: you're a forefront user of agentic AI with hands-on experience; able to influence the team beyond code generation; you reserve judgment for architecture, business logic, and security; you use AI as a thought partner and can set up quality gates and safety nets to enhance workflows and propose AI-native alternatives.
- Scalable systems & architecture: experience designing and evolving large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, distributed systems, high-volume data flows, and scalable architectural patterns. Ability to make sound technical trade-offs balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.
- Technical leadership: demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions, drive engineering best practices, and contribute to architectural direction.
- Product & business impact: strong product mindset; ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into scalable technical solutions using experimentation, data, and customer insights.
- Proactive problem-solving: comfortable navigating ambiguity and independently solving complex technical and product challenges; knowing when to engage others to maximize impact.
- Ownership & accountability: high level of self-organization, ownership, and responsibility; track record of driving initiatives from concept through delivery and measurable outcomes.
- Collaboration & communication: excellent collaboration, stakeholder management, and communication skills; ability to work effectively across engineering, product, design, and data functions. English level B2 or higher.
- Engineering excellence: experience working in cross-functional teams, contributing to code and design reviews, helping raise the engineering bar through knowledge sharing and technical leadership.
- Operational excellence: understanding of observability, reliability, monitoring, and operational best practices; willingness to participate in squad on-call rotation (1 week every 5 weeks).
