Salary: USD 126,000 - 167,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Flight Test Engineer to lead developmental test operations for a Group 5 Unmanned Air System (UAS). This role reports to program leadership and works across cross-functional teams to plan, coordinate, execute, and report on all aspects of the test program.
You will serve as a technical lead with minimal supervision, determining and recommending approaches to achieve Test & Evaluation (T&E) goals. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and executing technical efforts of the Fury development test program, with direct input to test event planning, preparation, execution, and reporting
- Focusing on new aircraft development, including envelope expansion, flying qualities, vehicle autonomy, and operational environment testing
- Ensuring comprehensive flight test campaign execution across multiple test articles in support of high-risk test events
- Conducting hardware and software testing in laboratory, ground, and flight environments, with emphasis on resource planning and process improvements
- Supporting test execution at government test facilities with USG partners
- Facilitating and leading technical interactions between disparate engineering teams, coordinating across T&E Integrated Product Teams, Flight Operations, and Maintenance
- Contributing to periodic and milestone engineering reviews, often facilitating technical discussions between Anduril and customer representatives
- Developing creative solutions to unique technical and execution challenges with a bias for action
The Test and Evaluation team at Anduril conducts full system-level development testing, new production acceptance testing, sub-component qualification testing, and more across the entire spectrum of products and business lines. REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience as test conductor/director for developmental aircraft, weapons, or missile systems
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent engineering experience may substitute)
- Test engineering experience with developmental systems of manned and/or unmanned aircraft, including requirements development, test planning and execution, and test reporting
- Complete understanding of Test & Evaluation engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory, with broad application experience
- Experience working across program Integrated Product Teams to influence system design or configuration
- Working knowledge of DCMA INST 8210, MIL-STD-516, 14 CFR, and service-related T&E guiding documents
- Foundational expertise in the National Airspace System, government restricted airspace, and UAS operating rules and regulations
- Prior experience conducting development flight test operations at military ranges
- Ability to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately, organize and schedule work phases, and determine appropriate approaches to complex problems
- Strong computer and documentation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work extended hours as required
- Ability to travel as required for test planning and execution
- Ability to immediately obtain a U.S. Top Secret-Level security clearance
- Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 15+ years of experience in Test & Evaluation or related technical fields
- Previously held a role as Flight Test Engineering Lead
- Participated in the first flight of a developmental aircraft or major aircraft system
- Experience managing individuals or teams
- Experience with large UAS development
- Previous experience working within a Combined Test Force or equivalent
