Helsing is a defense AI company focused on protecting democracies through technological leadership in AI-enabled military systems. As a Senior Flight Test Engineer, you will own military flight test programmes from concept through execution and reporting, serving as the critical bridge between advanced AI systems and live military aircraft integration.
Your responsibilities include:
- Taking overarching accountability for flight test programmes, from initial planning and risk assessment through safety case development, execution, and formal reporting
- Designing and conducting rigorous military ground and flight test campaigns, including large-scale international programmes involving live weapon firings
- Authoring and validating comprehensive ground procedures and flight test cards for advanced military systems (weapons, electro-optical/radar sensors, mission systems)
- Leading on-aircraft ground testing to verify integration integrity, confirm safety standards, and establish mission readiness
- Collaborating with engineering teams, test pilots, and the Lead Flight Test Engineer throughout operations; acting as L-FTE in-air when qualified
You should have a career built in flight testing of fast-jet or advanced military aircraft with substantive hands-on experience across the full test lifecycle. Deep expertise in complex military systems is essential: weapon integration, mission systems, military sensors (radar, EO/IR, EW), tactical data links, and air-to-air/air-to-surface weapon systems. You must have planned and delivered complex, multi-stakeholder flight test campaigns in international or live-fire environments. You approach flight safety with absolute rigor while maintaining operational urgency to deliver on timelines that matter. Clear communication across engineering, flight crew, and senior military stakeholders is critical.
Nice-to-have qualifications include graduation from an internationally recognized Test Pilot School, EASA Lead Flight Test Engineer Category 1 qualification, or experience working with European armed forces or NATO partners.
