Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology. The Sentry Tower Software team develops robotic systems that provide force protection capabilities, monitoring perimeters of secure areas on land or sea for approaching people, vehicles, and vessels. These systems leverage advanced sensor fusion and autonomy to render environmental activity into Lattice's common operating picture.
You will join the firmware team in Irvine to build and maintain software for current and next-generation Sentry Tower systems. This role focuses on the firmware layer—the critical foundation that runs on sensor boards and motor controllers, operating outdoors for months without service visits. Unlike application software, firmware bugs cannot be easily patched remotely; a failure means physical site visits to fix hardware already in the field.
You will work with an existing firmware platform rather than starting from scratch. The work involves specialized projects that build on or replace parts of the established baselayer, requiring careful code reading and understanding before making changes. The feedback loop is slower than application software, and the role rewards discipline and caution—getting it right before it ships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and extend firmware running on sensor boards, motor controllers, and power/monitoring hardware inside Sentry Tower products
- Take on projects that build on the existing firmware baselayer or replace parts of it without regressing deployed towers
- Drive firmware security hardening: authenticated and verified firmware updates, protecting physical-attack surfaces, and closing gaps from earlier versions
- Own the firmware update path, including safe updates for units already in the field
- Work with the tower software team on firmware-service boundaries for cross-layer diagnostics
- Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up and debugging from first power-on to production readiness
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years experience in firmware development using C
- Strong understanding of microcontroller architectures (ARM, RISC-V)
- Proficiency in low-level networking protocols (TCP/IP, CAN, SPI, I2C)
- Experience with RTOS and bare-metal programming
- Familiarity with debugging tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
- Solid understanding of computer architecture and memory management
- US person status required, with eligibility to obtain and maintain a US security clearance
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with kernel development or device driver implementation
- Knowledge of cryptography and secure boot processes
- Familiarity with DMA, interrupt handling, and power management
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Background in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
