As a Senior Engineer in Sustaining, you will lead the resolution of mechanical issues across production, testing, fielded aircraft, and customer operations. You'll provide hands-on engineering support during aircraft builds, integration, testing, and troubleshooting activities. Your responsibilities include establishing immediate containment actions while driving issues through root cause analysis and permanent corrective action implementation.
You will lead structured technical investigations using fault trees, 5 Whys analysis, failure analysis, and test-based troubleshooting methodologies. You'll coordinate investigations across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Test, and Field Operations teams. You'll review and disposition deviations, nonconformances, and production questions, determining when issues require design changes, drawing updates, process modifications, inspection changes, or supplier control adjustments.
Key responsibilities include updating CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of material, then driving changes through release and implementation processes. You'll document investigation results, track recurring issues, and incorporate lessons learned into future designs and processes to prevent recurrence.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in production, sustaining engineering, fielded products, or complex hardware troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations through verified corrective action
- Proficiency with 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and mechanical design for manufacturing
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills
