AscendArc is a venture-backed startup revolutionizing satellite communications. This role offers an opportunity to join the electrical engineering team at an early stage and own the design and qualification of power units for a revolutionary satellite communications system.
You will own power units end-to-end—battery, solar array wing, power control and conditioning unit (PCU/PPU), and power distribution unit (PDU)—from requirements through design or supplier specification to verification and acceptance. Approximately half the role involves hands-on board design; the other half focuses on unit-level engineering and supplier management.
For units built in-house, you will design the electronics including distribution and switching, protection and current limiting, inrush and fault handling, DC/DC conversion, heater and thermistor acquisition, and analog and digital interfaces. You will take designs through topology and part selection, schematic capture, worst-case and derating analysis, and support layout, fabrication, bring-up, debug, and board test.
For procured units, you will own technical content including unit specifications, statements of work, technical evaluation of proposals, supplier design reviews, resolution of interface and requirement issues, and acceptance data package review.
Additional responsibilities include selecting and defending EEE parts against radiation, quality, and lifetime requirements for a 15-year GEO mission; owning unit-level requirements and interfaces to the rest of the power chain and spacecraft; defining unit verification test objectives, procedures, and setups; supporting spacecraft-level electrical integration including grounding, bonding, power quality, harness, and EMI/EMC through launch; providing unit-level inputs to power budget and energy balance; and working within the Systems Engineering baseline for requirements, interfaces, and technical budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years designing power electronics or analog and mixed-signal hardware
- Hands-on board design experience: circuits from requirements through schematic, analysis, bring-up, and test
- Unit-level ownership: accountable for hardware from requirements through acceptance
- Power electronics depth: switching and linear conversion, protection and current limiting, inrush, fault isolation, and failure modes
- Worst-case, derating, and part stress analysis capability
- EEE parts selection for space or high-reliability domain
- Experience specifying and technically managing procured hardware units, including supplier design reviews and acceptance
- Comfortable at the bench with instrumentation, measurement, and debug
- Strong plus: spacecraft power units (batteries, cell management, solar array wings, PCU/PPU, PDU); EMI/EMC and grounding; magnetics design; firmware or FPGA familiarity; ECSS or equivalent space standards
Note: Due to U.S. export control regulations, this position is only open to U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or those with refugee/asylee status). Applicants on temporary work visas cannot be considered.
