Salary: USD 224,000 - 299,000 / annual
Insitro is seeking a Director (or Senior Director) of Translational Medicine and Diagnostics to lead the translational medicine function across three therapeutic areas: neurology/neurodegeneration, metabolism/cardiovascular, and ophthalmology. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, you will build and lead the translational medicine team from IND/CTA through clinical proof-of-concept, supporting development of biologics, oligonucleotides, small molecules, and multimodal biomarkers.
Key responsibilities include: building and scaling the translational medicine function; serving as translational lead for advanced pre-clinical and clinical-stage assets; owning end-to-end translational strategy, GCP adherence, and regulatory interactions; designing innovative patient stratification approaches using laboratory and digital biomarkers; generating proof-of-mechanism evidence to drive go/no-go decisions; interpreting regulatory requirements and quantifying ROI of translational strategies; collaborating across preclinical, clinical, regulatory, and computational teams; and influencing AI/ML policy in translational science through publications and stakeholder engagement.
You will have 10+ years of translational science experience in biotech/pharma, with direct experience as a translational lead delivering therapeutics and diagnostic biomarkers from first-in-human through proof-of-concept to NDA/BLA submission. Required qualifications include an advanced degree in life sciences, technology, chemistry, or related discipline; experience applying AI/ML to drug discovery; deep understanding of diagnostic/device regulations, GCP, clinical trial design, clinical pharmacology, biostatistics, and computational applications to drug development. You should be an excellent cross-functional collaborator with strong interpersonal skills and genuine passion for bringing better medicines to patients.
The role offers flexibility: onsite three days per week or hybrid (~one week per month) in South San Francisco, with travel to medical conferences and health authorities.
