Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Director of R&D HR Business Partnering to lead a global team of embedded HR Business Partners supporting senior executives across Engineering, Product, Security, and Research. This is a strategic HR leadership role that bridges business operations with People Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, People Operations). Key responsibilities include: **Business Acumen & COE Coordination**: Partner directly with the Head of R&D and technical VPs to align talent strategy with product roadmap and operational goals. Synthesize R&D's operational realities to drive tailored, high-impact talent programs while challenging leaders to elevate organizational standards. Apply analytical rigor to people metrics—diagnosing attrition, productivity, and organizational health to guide proactive business decisions. **Organizational Design & AI Integration**: Architect agile, high-velocity R&D structures optimized for AI-native workflows. Optimize team size, spans of control, and cross-functional interfaces. Partner with engineering leadership to rethink operating rhythms and team structures as development shifts to AI-assisted, agent-driven engineering. **Talent Portfolio Management**: Evolve technical career frameworks, leveling, and role definitions for AI-native engineering environments. Drive succession planning, critical-role mapping, and retention strategies for specialized technical talent across global hubs. Establish clear boundaries between AI-optimized work and decisions requiring human judgment, ethics, and character. **Driving Change & Strategic Initiatives**: Lead complex, continuous change initiatives across global R&D teams. Equip leaders to navigate structural evolution, technological pivots, and shifting priorities. Deliver custom, service-oriented solutions with high-trust coaching to senior technical leaders navigating team dynamics. **Team Leadership**: Lead a global HRBP team, setting high standards for strategic partnership, business fluency, and execution speed. Required qualifications: 15+ years progressive HR experience, including 5+ years leading an HRBP team supporting technical R&D, Engineering, or Product organizations in high-growth environments. Demonstrated expertise across business acumen, organizational design, talent portfolio management, and driving change. Deep understanding of how AI tools reshape technical workflows, combined with strong character assessment and people judgment.
