Generate Biomedicines seeks a Senior Director to lead Protein Analytics & Biophysics within the Therapeutics division. This role owns the scientific vision and operational excellence for measuring biophysical, biochemical, and interaction properties of protein therapeutics across the full design-build-test-learn cycle—from conventional analytical characterization (HPLC, LC/MS, thermal stability, biosensors) through next-generation pooled, miniaturized, and nanoscale measurement platforms.
The ideal candidate is a field-leading biophysicist and platform builder with deep experience inventing, scaling, or industrializing novel measurement approaches at orders-of-magnitude higher throughput and lower sample consumption. You will connect micro- and nanoscale assay innovation with Generate's AI/ML-enabled protein design engine, ensuring that experimental capabilities match the output velocity of generative design.
Key responsibilities include: setting multi-year scientific and organizational strategy; defining next-generation biophysical and protein-protein interaction measurement capabilities with focus on miniaturized, pooled, and high-throughput approaches; leading evolution of conventional analytical workflows; building strategy that bridges conventional and emerging pooled/multiplexed technologies; partnering across Prototyping, Technology, Automation, Data Sciences, ML, Protein Sciences, Biology, and CMC/Tech Ops to design and operationalize new assay concepts; identifying and implementing external/internal technologies to unlock smaller sample volumes, richer data, higher throughput, or improved sensitivity; establishing data standards and quality frameworks for high-throughput measurements used in model training and program decision-making; ensuring high-quality, decision-enabling data across Discovery, Candidate Selection, and early Development; driving operational excellence including prioritization, resource planning, metrics, and continuous improvement; and representing the function to executive stakeholders and external partners.
Leadership scope includes building, coaching, and developing a high-performing team of managers, senior scientists, and technical experts with clear growth paths and succession planning. You will foster an inclusive, transparent, feedback-rich environment empowering initiative and cross-functional collaboration. Success requires enterprise leadership capability: developing future leaders, strengthening scientific culture, managing external collaborations and CRO strategy, and translating ambitious scientific vision into robust, production-quality capabilities that improve decision quality, speed, and scale.
