GitLab is seeking a Senior Director of Internal Audit to report to the VP of Internal Audit and strengthen the company's internal audit function. In this role, you will operationalize GitLab's audit methodology, lead risk-based operational audits, and manage a distributed audit team to deliver practical recommendations addressing strategic, business, and compliance objectives.
Key responsibilities include evolving and operationalizing the Internal Audit methodology with consistent templates and stakeholder communications; planning and leading risk-based operational audits that deliver actionable recommendations; leading, coaching, and resourcing a distributed team against clear milestones and defined outcomes; facilitating enterprise risk management activities including emerging-risk discussions, key risk indicator mapping, and risk assessments; partnering with business leaders to prioritize audit work and share risk insights; overseeing the Sarbanes-Oxley testing program in collaboration with the SOX PMO and external auditors; implementing and maintaining a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program aligned to Institute of Internal Auditors standards; and leading reporting to the Audit Committee and senior management.
You should bring significant experience leading internal audit work and managing substantial audit portfolios, with deep expertise in audit and enterprise risk management including risk assessment, prioritization, internal controls, and audit planning. You'll need proven ability to build, coach, and lead distributed teams through clear priorities and outcomes, assess audit scope and quality through a risk-based lens, and advise senior stakeholders on risk mitigation with strong communication skills. Strong resource planning, prioritization, and problem-solving capabilities across multiple audits are essential. Experience using data, analytical tools, and practical approaches to process improvement—including thoughtful use of AI—is valued. Relevant credentials such as CIA, CISA, CPA, or MBA, along with software industry experience, are preferred.
