ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space, operating the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. The ISR Analytics team builds products that deliver tactical and strategic intelligence to sovereign mission customers, combining military intelligence, data science, AI, and software engineering.
This Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer role is a hands-on individual contributor position reporting to the VP of ISR Analytics. You will own the automation that packages and deploys ICEYE's product to on-premises and air-gapped customer environments—often in secure, sovereign settings with no internet access. Unlike traditional DevOps roles focused on keeping one system running, this position emphasizes building the automation that creates, ships, upgrades, and tears down complete deployments reliably and repeatably in restricted environments.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Building and owning automation that packages the product and deploys it to on-prem and air-gapped customer environments
- Writing tooling (primarily Python) that fills gaps between off-the-shelf tools rather than only configuring them
- Provisioning and managing infrastructure from bare metal and hypervisors up to Kubernetes, making it reproducible from code
- Keeping cloud development environments fast and disposable so engineers can spin up a full stack on demand
- Building CI/CD pipelines that produce signed, versioned, offline-installable releases
- Setting up observability that works when systems cannot be reached from outside
- Identifying what the team needs next and raising it proactively
You will work inside the product team, not beside it, and many of your changes will touch the application codebase. This is a role for someone who thrives in building infrastructure and deployment automation in complex, restricted environments.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must haves:
- Senior hands-on engineer (not an engineering manager or architect role)
- Strong experience building infrastructure and deployment automation, not only operating existing systems
- Solid coding skills in Python, or deep experience in another language (e.g., Go) with willingness to work in Python
- Daily use of AI tools in engineering work beyond chat: generating and reviewing code, configuration, and tests (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor)
- High autonomy: you find problems, propose fixes, and drive them through
- Motivation to work in new defense: building technology used by defense forces
Nice to haves:
- On-prem or datacenter experience: bootstrapping servers, virtualization (VMware, Proxmox), storage and networking, not just public cloud
- Experience delivering to air-gapped or otherwise restricted environments
- Release engineering: shipping a packaged product to many customer environments on a fixed schedule
- Built internal tools and automation used by other engineers (CLI, operator, provisioning service)
- Operated PostgreSQL in production (upgrades, backups, migrations); PostGIS a plus
- Strong individual contributor track record in a startup or fast-changing company launching new products
- Comfortable in an environment where process and requirements change often and are not always fully defined
- Clear communicator who works well with experienced, opinionated engineers
