AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering, requiring someone who can design interfaces in Figma and build them in production React/TypeScript. You'll design and build core product surfaces including the Playground and dashboard, setting the bar for UX quality across interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and visual polish.
Key responsibilities include owning visual and interaction design end-to-end, establishing design system standards that scale with product growth, prototyping quickly to validate direction before commitment, and partnering directly with engineering and marketing on product strategy. You'll work with AI tooling and agents as core parts of your workflow, designing and shipping faster through AI-assisted development.
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating design taste and craft, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution, and deep Figma proficiency. You need solid frontend engineering skills with production React and TypeScript experience, fluency with AI-assisted design and development, and comfort operating with ambiguity while owning outcomes end-to-end.
Nice-to-have skills include motion design expertise, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. AssemblyAI is a capital-efficient AI company with 600M+ monthly inference calls, processing 1M+ hours of audio daily, and powering 2B+ end-user experiences.
