AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The company processes 2M+ hours of audio daily, serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, and powers 2B+ end-user experiences across 2,000+ customers including Granola, Fireflies, Figure AI, and CallRail. In this role, you will design and build the interfaces developers interact with daily—from the Playground to the dashboard—ensuring every element looks, moves, and feels exceptional. You'll lead with design sensibility while leveraging strong frontend engineering skills to bring your vision to life without handoff. This is a cross-functional position requiring close partnership with engineering, marketing, and sales teams. Key responsibilities include: owning visual and interaction design of core product surfaces and building them in production React and TypeScript; setting the UX quality bar across interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and polish; rapidly prototyping rough ideas into polished, high-fidelity experiences; shaping and stewarding the design system as the product scales; partnering directly with engineering and marketing on strategic direction; and leveraging AI tooling and agents as core workflow components. Required qualifications: strong portfolio demonstrating design taste and craft; genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution; deep Figma proficiency with component library management; solid frontend engineering skills in modern React and TypeScript; fluency with AI-assisted design and development; comfort operating with ambiguity and owning outcomes end-to-end. Nice-to-have skills include motion design expertise, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. AssemblyAI operates as a lean, capital-efficient meritocracy with ~100 employees generating ~$500K ARR per employee. The company prioritizes real ownership, fast execution, minimal bureaucracy, and transparent access to tools and information.
