AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering execution, requiring someone who can move fluidly between high-fidelity design work in Figma and production React/TypeScript implementation. You will own the visual and interaction design of core product surfaces—including the Playground, dashboard, and developer-facing interfaces—then build them yourself. This is not a handoff role; you lead with design vision and engineer the implementation to ensure every detail, from interaction states to motion to information hierarchy, reflects your craft. Key responsibilities include setting the UX quality bar across the product, rapidly prototyping rough ideas into polished experiences, stewarding the design system as it scales, and partnering directly with engineering and marketing on strategic direction. You'll work with AI tooling and agents as core parts of your workflow, designing and shipping faster because of them. The ideal candidate brings a strong portfolio of shipped product work demonstrating real design taste, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through execution, deep Figma proficiency, solid frontend engineering skills in modern React and TypeScript, and fluency with AI-assisted design and development. You should be comfortable operating with ambiguity and owning outcomes end-to-end. Nice-to-have skills include motion design expertise, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and prior experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. AssemblyAI processes 1M+ hours of audio daily, serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, and powers 2B+ end-user experiences. The company operates as a lean, capital-efficient meritocracy with under 100 people and ~$500K ARR per employee, giving every team member outsized ownership and impact.
