AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering, requiring someone who can design and build interfaces end-to-end—from the Playground to the dashboard—while maintaining exceptional craft in visual design, interaction design, and motion. You will own the visual and interaction design of core product surfaces, then build them in production React and TypeScript. You'll set the bar for UX quality across the product, focusing on interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and the details that distinguish a working interface from one that feels considered and polished. The role involves taking rough product ideas and turning them into high-fidelity experiences through rapid prototyping, shaping the design system and visual language to scale as the product grows, and partnering directly with engineering and marketing on strategic direction. AssemblyAI processes 1M+ hours of audio daily and serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, powering 2B+ end-user experiences. The company operates as a lean, capital-efficient organization with under 100 people and roughly $500K ARR per employee—among the top 5 most revenue-dense teams in fast-growing AI companies. This is a rare opportunity where the business is proven and trajectory is steep, but the team remains small enough that individual contributions have outsized impact. Required qualifications include a strong portfolio demonstrating design taste and craft, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution, deep Figma proficiency, solid frontend engineering skills in modern React and TypeScript, and fluency with AI-assisted design and development. You should be comfortable operating with ambiguity and owning outcomes end-to-end. Nice-to-have skills include motion design experience, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and prior experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. The company emphasizes meritocracy, real ownership, and the ability to move fast without heavy approval processes.
