AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering, requiring someone who can design interfaces end-to-end and build them in production React and TypeScript. You will own the visual and interaction design of core product surfaces including the Playground and dashboard, setting the bar for UX quality across the platform. This includes attention to interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and the subtle details that distinguish a functional interface from one that feels considered and polished. Key responsibilities include: designing and building core product interfaces; establishing and maintaining design system standards as the product scales; prototyping quickly to validate direction before full commitment; partnering directly with engineering and marketing on product direction; and leveraging AI tooling and agents as core parts of your workflow. You should have a strong portfolio demonstrating design taste and craft, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution, and deep Figma proficiency. Solid frontend engineering skills in modern React and TypeScript are essential, as is fluency with AI-assisted design and development. You must be comfortable operating with ambiguity and owning outcomes end-to-end. Nice-to-have skills include motion design, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. AssemblyAI processes 2M+ hours of audio daily, serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, and powers 2B+ end-user experiences. The company operates as a lean, capital-efficient organization with ~100 people generating ~$500K ARR per employee, emphasizing real ownership, fast movement, and meritocratic decision-making.
