AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering, requiring someone who can design interfaces in Figma and build them in production React/TypeScript. You'll design and build core product surfaces including the Playground and dashboard, setting the bar for UX quality across interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and visual polish.
Key responsibilities include owning visual and interaction design end-to-end, establishing design standards that scale with product growth, rapidly prototyping ideas to validate direction before commitment, maintaining the design system and visual language, and partnering directly with engineering and marketing on product direction. You'll leverage AI tooling and agents as core parts of your workflow to design and ship faster.
The ideal candidate brings a strong portfolio of shipped product work demonstrating design taste and craft, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution, deep Figma proficiency including component library maintenance, solid frontend engineering skills with modern React and TypeScript, and fluency with AI-assisted design and development. Experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products is valuable. Nice-to-have skills include motion design, illustration/visual storytelling, and experience with technical tool design.
