AssemblyAI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own the complete product experience for its Voice AI platform. The role combines design leadership with frontend engineering execution—you'll design and build interfaces for the Playground, dashboard, and developer-facing tools, then implement them in production React and TypeScript. You will set the bar for UX quality across the product, focusing on interaction states, motion, hierarchy, and the details that distinguish a functional interface from one that feels intentional. You'll take rough product concepts and transform them into polished, high-fidelity experiences, prototyping quickly to validate direction before committing to implementation. You'll shape and steward the design system and visual language to ensure quality scales as the product grows. This is a cross-functional role requiring close partnership with engineering, marketing, and sales. You'll move from rough ideas to shipped experiences without waiting for formal specs, using AI tooling and agents as core parts of your workflow. Required qualifications include a strong portfolio of shipped product work demonstrating design taste and craft, genuine UX and visual design ability from concept through high-fidelity execution, deep Figma proficiency, solid frontend engineering skills in modern React and TypeScript, and fluency with AI-assisted design and development. You should be comfortable operating with ambiguity and owning outcomes end to end. Nice-to-have skills include motion design experience, illustration or visual storytelling ability, and prior experience designing for developer platforms or API-first products. AssemblyAI processes 2M+ hours of audio daily, serves 600M+ monthly inference calls, and powers 2B+ end-user experiences. The company operates as a lean, capital-efficient organization with under 100 people and ~$500K ARR per employee, creating an environment where individual contributions have outsized impact.
