SmartBiz Bank is seeking a Senior Credit Analyst to join its Commercial and SBA Lending divisions in Northbrook, Illinois. This role is responsible for evaluating the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses to assess lending risk and support loan growth targets across the bank's portfolio.
Key responsibilities include analyzing credit data and financial statements to identify lending risk; preparing pre-flight assessments for the Chief Credit Officer and senior management to evaluate loan proposals against bank strategy and policy; assisting with loan structuring; and preparing deal checklists for loan officer review. The analyst will manage multiple loan files in various stages of completion, gather required documentation per credit submission checklists, interact with borrowers to ensure complete packages, and collaborate with loan officers and customers to facilitate approvals.
Additional duties encompass maintaining ongoing credit training, managing commercial and SBA lending underwriting transactions, organizing and presenting loan committee presentations, preparing annual loan file reviews, monitoring loan policy exception reports with quarterly updates, and maintaining the loan portfolio with tickler and exception management.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of underwriting experience at a community bank with strong knowledge of commercial banking underwriting; SBA small loan underwriting experience is a plus. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; exceptional oral and written communication skills; and strong organizational and detail-oriented abilities. Salesforce experience is preferred. The position requires in-office presence in Northbrook.
