Rare Candy is a leading marketplace for trading card games (Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, and more) used by millions of collectors to buy, sell, and showcase their collections. The company grew nearly 30x last year and is scaling rapidly.
You will own creative strategy across all channels: organic social, paid acquisition, user-generated content (UGC), creator partnerships, and product launches. You'll direct what Rare Candy makes and why, working directly with the Director of Growth and CEO on brand positioning and messaging.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop creative concepts and write briefs for Instapacks, drops, partnerships, and seasonal moments
- Write hooks, scripts, and copy direction for the team and creators to build from
- Direct the output and priorities of the social team, freelancers, and production partners
- Partner with in-house creators (including co-founder Leonhart) on content and distribution
- Review creative before publication and provide directional notes
- Build repeatable processes for producing, reviewing, publishing, and testing creative
- Run paid-social testing roadmap and identify winning UGC for paid adaptation
- Turn collector behavior, customer insights, and cultural moments into content
- Maintain rolling content and launch calendars, extending launches beyond week one
- Use performance data to decide which concepts, hooks, formats, and creators to scale
- Send weekly creative performance recaps
- Protect Rare Candy's voice and visual identity
Success milestones: By day 30, you'll have audited past performance and established weekly creative rhythm. By day 90, a dependable creative pipeline, structured paid-creative testing program, and integrated UGC system will be live. By year-end, Rare Candy will have a recognizable voice and look, every launch will have a multi-week creative plan, and creative testing will demonstrably reduce acquisition costs.
You'll start mornings reviewing paid dashboards and testing performance, midday reviewing calendars and giving notes on creator drafts, afternoons in planning sessions on launches, and end days writing briefs. The role requires deep fluency in TikTok, Reels, Shorts, YouTube, and paid-social formats, plus hands-on experience directing creators and managing freelancers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years in creative strategy, social, content, or brand marketing, ideally at consumer, marketplace, gaming, collectibles, sports, or culture-driven brands
- Proven track record directing creative that performed; ability to articulate what changed and why it worked
- Sharp brief-writing skills; people who work from your briefs make better stuff
- Fluency in TikTok, Reels, Shorts, YouTube, creator content, and paid-social formats; understanding of what the first two seconds of video must accomplish
- Experience briefing and managing creators; ability to give notes without diminishing what made their content good
- Demonstrated ability to change creative based on data; can walk through a specific example
- Strong writing and editing skills for copy, hooks, and scripts
- Strong communication and project-management skills across creators, freelancers, and internal teams
- Knowledge of Pokémon and the TCG world: products, community dynamics, creators, language
BONUS:
- Experience scaling paid-social creative on Meta and TikTok
- Experience with drops, livestreams, or launch-driven brands
- Experience growing a small creative team
