Planet is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to bridge financial operations between its newly established Berlin manufacturing facility and US headquarters. This hybrid role (3 days/week in Berlin office) combines local German entity accounting with global cost management responsibilities. Key responsibilities include: establishing scalable cost accounting workflows and standard costing methodologies for the Berlin production line; leading monthly close processes for inventory (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) with physical cycle counts and reconciliations; ensuring compliance with German GAAP (HGB) and managing R&D tax incentive documentation (Forschungszulage); managing PCard reconciliations and capital expenditure classifications; serving as backup for US cost accountants during peak periods and time-off; reviewing consolidated transfer orders between international subsidiaries; tracking satellite materials, launch, and build costs across inventory and fixed assets; assisting with labor capitalization for software development and satellite construction; performing purchase price variance, production variance, scrap, and Excess & Obsolete analysis; preparing balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries for US and EMEA operations; and supporting internal and external audits across US GAAP, German GAAP, and SOX controls. Required qualifications: 4–6 years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing or high-tech environments; expertise in inventory controls and multi-entity global structures; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent German Ausbildung such as Industriekaufmann/-frau with accounting/controlling focus); proficiency with modern ERP systems and advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; professional fluency in English and German. Desirable qualifications include working knowledge of both US GAAP and German GAAP (HGB), and hands-on NetSuite ERP experience. The role requires access to US and German/EU export-controlled information; employment is contingent upon export control compliance.
