Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Controls & Automation Engineer to join the Enterprise Test Capabilities (ETC) team in Costa Mesa, CA. ETC develops, operates, and scales shared physical test infrastructure and technical expertise to validate Anduril's defense technology products. The team manages diverse testing capabilities including environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock, HALT, TVAC), battery characterization and abuse testing, propulsion testing with engine test cells, aerodynamic testing in wind tunnels, and structural testing. Within ETC, the Internal Capabilities Development (ICD) team builds custom test equipment and capabilities used across product lines (Ground Systems, Maritime, Space, Air Dominance & Strike, Drones). Over three years, ICD has delivered large-scale test equipment including Walk-In Thermal Chambers, static-fire test stands, Salt Fog chambers, Server Electrical & Heat Load Simulators, and environmental test equipment built to MIL-STD-810H standards. In this hands-on role, you will own development of LabVIEW and NI FlexLogger-based data acquisition, control, and automation software. Key responsibilities include: developing and maintaining standardized hardware abstraction layers (HAL) and reusable plugins/drivers that integrate commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) instrumentation into centralized DAQ systems; managing automation projects from requirements through design, development, validation, and support; integrating PLC-based control systems, custom hardware, sensors, and DAQ hardware into working test systems; developing documentation and training materials; and mentoring team members on LabVIEW and DAQ best practices. You will work with serial, Ethernet, Modbus, GPIB, and other interfaces to integrate power analyzers, electronic loads, thermal chamber controllers, PLCs, and current sensors. This work directly improves data quality, traceability, and engineering efficiency while reducing reliance on external development (currently $9K–$37K per plugin from outside firms). You will support test readiness reviews and partner with DevTest engineers and stakeholders to turn technical needs into practical solutions.
