Arista Networks is seeking a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join the OpenConfig team, responsible for building a dynamic, programmable data center infrastructure using software-defined networking principles. The role focuses on declarative configuration and model-driven management and operations.
You will work on Arista's networking operating system, architected from first principles around three core principles: state orientation, open standards-based approach, and single software image consistency.
State Orientation employs a unique multi-process state-sharing architecture that separates state information from protocol processing and application logic, using a central database with publish-subscribe communication. This design provides module independence, self-healing resiliency, and multi-process software stability—a distributed systems solution applied across the network, contrasting with legacy inter-process communication approaches.
Arista's open approach builds EOS on an unmodified Linux kernel, maintaining full secured access to Linux shell and utilities. This preserves security, feature development, and tools from the Linux community, enabling native support for Linux containers and virtual machines while simplifying DevOps practices.
The single image principle delivers one software image running across all products in various forms—physical platforms, virtual machines, and containers. The same source code and version deploy network-wide, improving testing and reliability while reducing operational complexity. This enables DevOps tools like Ansible and Terraform to work across all Arista devices with single integration, establishing CI pipelines for building, testing, and deploying network configurations with increased speed and reliability.
Arista Networks is an industry leader in data-driven, client-to-cloud networking for large data center, campus, and routing environments, leveraging advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and software-defined networking.
