Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build high-speed aircraft. The company works with the Department of War to deliver advanced aerospace capabilities.
In this Senior Build Reliability Engineer role, you will own quality and reliability engineering across hardware development and manufacturing. Your responsibilities include:
• Partner with design engineering and manufacturing teams to create comprehensive quality plans for hardware, including identification of key characteristics, prototype testing for functionality and manufacturability, first article inspection requirements, and incorporation of lessons learned from past failures.
• Define and implement inspection methods for components to internal and industry standards to ensure part conformity.
• Investigate failures in manufacturing, test, and flight operations, identifying and mitigating root causes to reduce risk and improve design and process reliability.
• Determine and document Quality Management System requirements around traceability, non-conformance, and configuration management; collaborate with IT/QMS teams to build and test applications that enforce these requirements.
• Support QMS policies and procedure documentation; participate in continual improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Own and manage the containment process for suspect or non-conforming product, providing guidance to quality inspectors, technicians, shop supervisors, and engineers on quarantine and rework activities while driving the NCR process.
• Develop, implement, and validate lean test and inspection processes for new and existing products, ensuring objective criteria and consistent quality goal achievement.
• Confirm operational safety precautions are considered and identified per area planning standards.
• Drive and measure closure on nonconformance disposition and material review board (MRB) resolution.
• Provide engineer-level support to inspectors and serve as an escalation path for identifying and mitigating risks.
This is a hands-on technical role with leadership responsibilities for quality and reliability in a fast-paced aerospace development environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or engineering physics
• 3+ years in manufacturing, quality, and/or design engineering roles
• Experience working in a development environment
• Experience supporting production of complex mechanical/structural assemblies
• Demonstrated understanding of CAD and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Hands-on knowledge of CNC machining, additive manufacturing, casting, welding, fastening, or other special manufacturing processes
• Previous quality or reliability engineering experience in an aerospace environment (preferred)
• Previous experience leading and/or closely supporting a team of inspectors (preferred)
• Experience with AS9100, AS6500, and/or Nadcap (preferred)
