Weave is a healthcare technology platform serving 30,000+ medical practices with an all-in-one solution covering scheduling, payments, communication, and reviews. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll design and build scalable backend services and APIs using Go and distributed systems architecture, working in a collaborative environment with teams across the US and India.
You will own the design, development, and maintenance of resilient microservices that power critical healthcare features. Your responsibilities include driving technical architecture decisions, collaborating cross-functionally with product and frontend teams, conducting system design reviews, and ensuring code quality and observability from development through production. You'll help plan and execute projects end-to-end with strong ownership and outcome orientation, and mentor junior engineers by sharing knowledge and best practices.
The role reports to the Manager of Engineering and involves participation in on-call rotations for production systems. You'll influence long-term system health by anticipating scaling and maintenance needs, and contribute to Weave's overall engineering strategy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with modern programming languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, or C#; Go preferred or willingness to learn)
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and inter-service communication (protobufs/gRPC, REST, NSQ)
- Experience with relational databases and SQL
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and take responsibility for production systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deployed and maintained services in cloud environments, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Comfortable with Docker/Kubernetes, observability tooling (metrics, alerts, tracing), and service reliability
- Experience with protobufs/gRPC or Temporal
- Experience breaking monoliths into microservices
- Thoughtful approach to technical debt and scalability
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to communicate complex systems to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Leadership mindset with curiosity and commitment to elevating the team
