Lightning AI, founded in 2019 and backed by Coatue, Index Ventures, and Bain Capital Ventures, is the company behind PyTorch Lightning. The company builds an end-to-end platform for developing, training, and deploying AI systems, combining developer-first software with cost-efficient, large-scale compute infrastructure following a merger with Voltage Park. Lightning AI operates globally with offices in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and London, serving solo researchers, startups, and large enterprises. The Senior Accountant, General Ledger role is a hybrid position based in San Francisco (2 days/week in-office) reporting to the Director of Corporate Accounting. This is a record-to-report seat responsible for supporting the general ledger close across multiple legal entities, including balance sheet reconciliations, monthly financial statements, and flux analysis. Key responsibilities include: preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for the balance sheet on a predictable, auditable cadence; preparing bank reconciliations across multiple operating, money market, and card-settlement accounts, including third-party payment platforms; preparing monthly intercompany receivable and payable reconciliations between entities and investigating out-of-balance positions; preparing payroll journal entries, accrued compensation, bonus and PTO schedules with GL mapping between payroll platform and ledger; and maintaining prepaids, fixed assets, and leases. A significant component of this role involves transformation and process improvement. The accountant will close the books each month while simultaneously redesigning the close process, migrating manual workflows into NetSuite, replacing manual workarounds with controls, and documenting procedures to reduce single-person dependencies. The ideal candidate is a builder who moves fast, communicates openly, takes ownership, and continuously improves processes and systems.
